Thigh Liposuction

Medical Information

Outer thighs liposuction is one of the ways of removing the excess fat on the thighs.
The surgical procedure implies the insertion of a steel hollow tube at the fat tissue level, between the skin and muscles, visibly improving the body line.
It is an option for removing the fat, which cannot be removed through usual methods.
The best candidate for this method is a person of normal weight or slightly above the normal weight , who has specific “trouble areas” which will not respond to traditional techniques.
Ultrasonic assisted liposuction is another possible procedure.
This implies using high frequency sound waves in order to liquefy the fat before slowly removing it.

Procedure

Hospitalization is required only in the case of removing a high quantity of fat.
At the beginning of the intervention, the patient will be put under anaesthesis. Its type varies according to the quantity of fat tissue removed. It can be either local or general.
The surgeon will inject a solution made by a light antialgic, a saline solution , a substance which contracts the sanguine vessels at the level of the affected area.
This facilitates removing the fat, reduces blood loss and assures analgesics before and after the surgery.
After making a small incision, the aspiration device will be introduced at the level of the fat tissue between the skin and muscles, thus slowly removing the fat.
Its duration varies according to the quantity of fat removed.

In the case of ultrasonic assisted liposuction the anesthetic solution will be injected together with the substance which causes the swelling of the fat tissue.
Afterwards a small tube will be introduced under the skin through a small incision.
It will be maneuvered under the skin transmitting ultrasounds which determines the liquefaction of the fat cells.
The liquefied fat and the anesthetic fluid will be removed using gentle aspiration.

Frequent side effects

In some cases local swelling, inflammation or ecchymosis (which will persist a few weeks), may occur.
The recovery process of each patient depends on the volume of fat tissue removed and on the affected area.

Complications

Even though they rarely occur, they include infection or irregular pigmentation.

Recovery

In most cases, it is very quick. The majority of patients can return ton their daily activities in just a few days after the intervention.

Results

If the patient gains weight after the surgery, the fat can appear in the same area.
In order to maintain the results an adequate diet and physical exercises are required.
