Six Reasons Why People Want Human Cloning

Cloning is the creation of an organism that is an exact genetic copy of another, meaning that every single bit of DNA is the same between the two. Human cloning is the artificial process of making a genetic twin of a person. Human cloning has already become illegal or restricted in a variety of degrees in several countries, thus scientific research has been significantly reduced throughout the world. President Barack Obama says human cloning is “dangerous, profoundly wrong” and has no place in society. Furthermore, there are legislations proposing the ban of human cloning, and a large amount of legislation proposing to allow human cloning. But why some people want human cloning?

Infertility. Millions of couples around the world suffer from some kind of fertility problem. So, rather than use donated sperm and eggs, people could use a cell of your own to give birth to “themselves”, their own twin. However, there are plenty of children in orphanages and foster cares that could use a home and family.

Recover someone they’ve lost, for instance the exact copy of their dead son/ daughter who was healthy and smart but died in a stupid accident.

Making the human race better: Selecting the most perfect genetic donor in someone’s opinion, whether it is from super-geniuses (e.g., Albert Einstein) or super-athletes (e.g., Michael Jordan), advances in science and technology would grow at an even faster rate and more people would be healthier. This reason is connected with eugenics, also known as the science of improving human genetic qualities. Eugenics was practiced around the world and was promoted by governments and influential individuals and institutions but then it fall into disrepute after having become associated with the Nazi doctrine.

Assisting Medicine and Medical research: We may be able to cure cancer if cloning leads to a better understanding of cell differentiation. It is said that parents could produce a clone of a sick child to provide bone marrow. Theories exist about how cloning may lead to a cure for heart attacks, a revolution in cosmetic surgery, organs for organ transplantation, and predictions abound about how cloning technology will save thousands of lives. However, this research is still in its infancy and requires a lot more time, effort, and money before it matures into saving a lot more people.

Taking a step towards immortality - Human cloning essentially means taking a human being’s DNA and reversing its age back to zero. Dr. Richard Seed, one of cloning’s leading proponents, hopes that cloning will help us understand how to reverse DNA back to age 20 or whatever age we want to be. Cloning would be a step towards a fountain of youth.
