Andropause

Hormonal changes which affect our body as the time passes, are not only characteristic to women as more and more doctors have seen similar body reactions in the case of men.
In this case the phenomenon is called andropause and supposes body changes as the level of testosterone drops.
The consequence is that men feel more depressed, more tired and weakened and some can even have problems of sexual nature.

The controversy around this subjects resides in the fact that even if the testosterone level drops as the years go by , the phenomenon called andropause is felt only by some men.
If in the case of women menopause is very well defined and its causes are already known , in what concerns men , the gradual drop of testosterone level in the body make it difficult to delimitate the exact periods andropause begins.

There are men who at 50 years old may be confronted with the above mentioned problems while other can produce sperm even at 80 years old.
Doctors consider that the factors which may lead to the beginning of andropause are obesity, some types of disease such as diabetes, some problems of physical nature such as depression. There are also some hearth conditions or lung problems which cause the drop of testosterone level in the body.
If medical tests show that the testosterone level has dropped, the next step is the Testosterone Replacement Therapy – TRT. Like in the case of menopause, the administration of sexual hormones has the role of bringing the testosterone level close to the normal.
However, such treatments can also have side effects, that is why it is important to go to a specialized physician before starting them . For example, one of its side effects is the aggravation of prostate cancer.
This treatment can also be accompanied by regular physical exercises in order to eliminate some risk factors such as obesity.
The physician can also prescribe anti depressive drugs if it is necessary.
